A birthday commission for Juliette. Blues and greens together, I’ll be honest, is not something I’d have done unprompted, but that was the brief and I love the result. With the addition of a tiny bit of purple-blue and iridescent blue/purple the colours seem very happy together, so much so that I’m calling this set of colours ‘Juliette’ from now on. The trivet/wall piece is 8″ x 8″.
This little special one is made from a scrap of an old victorian stained glass panel, when I made it I had no idea that such scraps were a rarity, but I’ve never found one since in the pile of bits at Lead and Light where I get my glass. (What a shop BTW, I could spend hours in there…I have spent hours in there.) I made it to sell, but I can’t bear to part with it – I’m never going to win business person of the year. Sigh.
Well, these have been popular, I sold two and gave the others as presents for Christmas. Tunnocks, for those who eschew chocolate, are Scotland’s finest naughty tea time treats, but better than that have the least fiddled with packaging of all confectionery, ideal for retro kookiness in the kitchen. These are ‘Teacake’ and ‘Caramel’ wrappers under cut glass. Yum, both of them, honestly, get some. If you’d like a Tunnocks based trivet for a present for someone please let me know, 6″ x 6″ £40 and larger ones upwards of that.
Click on this image (as with all the images on the site) to see the full version, but please don’t judge me on the messiness of my workroom – I must take a better picture of this mirror. It’s all cut glass, and the edge to edge diameter is 16″, it’s a good size. The edges are lined with lead strip for neatness. It’s for sale at £200 if you’d like it. It’s pretty and in subtle tones, with lots of detail. If you buy it and you live in London Uk I’ll bring it to you to save on postage. Please contact me if you’re interested.

Here’s a mirror that needs a home, if you like it it’s £60, it’s 10″ x 10″ and the mirror part is 3.5″ x 3.5″. Please get in touch if you’d like to buy it.
This is smaller than usual (4″ x 6″) and I made it for my uncle. It’s a statue of King William of Orange that graces the Town Square where he lives. It’s mirror and iridescent blue glass and I’m quite surprised given the experimental approach that you can tell it’s chap on a horse in silhouette, from below – in case you were wondering.
Happy Birthday Uncle R
The sun was out for a bit when I photographed this 10″ x 10″ trivet. This was another commission, and the birthday recipient I was told loves irises and the colour purple. Well, say no more. I looked at Tiffany for inspiration for this one and though that was a bit un-nerving due to his immense mosaic talent (and immense mosaics – we’re talking whole walls), I took a deep breath and balanced large pieces of glass with small detail and purples with yellow greens to bring out the colours. You can put a hot pan on it, but you know – I sort of hope this one ends up on a wall.
A commissioned birthday treat trivet for a fan of Scottish Colourists, this is 10″ x 10″ stained glass on board with a slightly blue grout. It’s homage to this beautiful (record breaking apparently) still life by Peploe and I have to say the style with the heavy outlines and flat plain approach lends itself to mosaic. What a pleasure to absorb the elements of a Peploe still life, the vase, the tulips, the fruit and the lovely colours of course. I love a commission for someone who knows what they like, it’s a challenge and always a pleasure to have a place to start. Here it is in a different light.
Nearly called this one the colour blindness test trivet. There’s a message in that trivet…look closely, or maybe look further awayly….it’s a date, 14.7.12, the wedding date of its owners. No more help. It’s all round cut stained glass, on a board that’s 6″ x 12″ and looks different in different light of course, so here’s another picture.

This is an experiment. I wanted to see what I could make in a day, (long day, more like two days in fact) to keep the price of a handmade mosaic to the minimum, without compromising on the quality, look or merit of the work. So I made these in what amounts to a long day, and I think they look pretty smart. They are 6″ x 6″, enough for a hot pan, and I was hoping had a sort of retro 50s look to them. They are cut from the same mixture of glass, but each is unique.
